Asbestos Awareness Course
What’s It About?
Asbestos is an extremely hazardous substance that has the potential to cause serious ill-health to anyone who disturbs it. Therefore it is really important that all workers that may come across Asbestos in their day-to-day work are suitably trained so that they can work safely.
This Asbestos Awareness course ensures you have a good basic knowledge and understanding of the dangers associated with asbestos fibres. It will make you aware of how to avoid risks and what correct health and safety procedures you should follow.
You will also understand the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
What Will You Gain?
By the end of this Asbestos Awareness course, you will understand the legislation associated with asbestos-containing materials. You will also know how to comply with these regulations.
You will know the health risks associated with asbestos and understand the consequences of failure.
On returning to work, you will be able to identify the different types of asbestos. You will also know how to apply practical controls when you come across asbestos.
Who Should Attend?
This half-day Asbestos Awareness course is ideal for anyone who may be at risk of inadvertently disturbing asbestos-containing materials. This includes caretakers, electricians, plumbers, maintenance workers, joiners, computer engineers and even cleaners.
Please note that this is a Category A training course and is therefore not suitable for anyone working in the role of removing Asbestos from properties.
Why’s It Important?
Asbestos is the greatest single cause of work-related deaths in the UK. It results in around 5000 deaths each year. It is more than the number of people killed on the road. Approximately 20 tradesmen die each week as a result of past exposure.
It is now illegal to use asbestos in the construction and refurbishment of buildings. However, in the past asbestos cement products were widely used in the building industry. As a result, asbestos is still present in buildings that were built or refurbished before 2000. Therefore, it will continue to be an issue for many years to come.
Therefore, if you are at risk of coming across asbestos at work, it is a legal requirement that you undertake training. Also, as a business owner, if you allow builders or maintenance personnel onto your premises, then it’s vital you ensure that they have evidence of asbestos awareness training to prevent future compensation claims.
