Forklift Truck Training Courses
Minimise Accidents. Reduce Stock Damage. Increase Productivity
Forklift trucks are responsible for more serious accidents at work than cars and HGVs
It is estimated that each year 10% of all investigated accidents involving forklift trucks are caused largely by the lack of operator training, resulting in injury to operators and those around them.
The forklift truck training courses are run by qualified and experienced instructors and can be approved by RTITB (Road Transport Industry Training Board).
Training can take place actually at your premises in your working environment using the lifting equipment and loads that your staff are familiar with. We ask that the customers provide a suitable area for practical training, an appropriate machine, suitable loads and indoor facilities for presenting theoretical training.
Alternatively, we can arrange for your staff to attend our forklift truck training centre in Gloucester, where courses can be run for Reach, Counter Balance and Pivot Steer trucks, if this is more convenient.
The law holds the business owner responsible
As an employer, you must ensure that all operators who use work equipment are trained to approved standards and that their supervisors are also adequately trained.
You should not allow anyone to operate mechanical handling equipment, even on a very casual basis, if they have not completed basic training and testing satisfactorily. Forklift truck training, followed by regular monitoring of the performance of your operators, is by far the best way to promote safer use of mechanical handling equipment.
What this means to you
All employees who use work equipment must have adequate training. This means sufficient for the job, which, for forklift truck operators, will be measured in days rather than hours.
As well as being a legal requirement, there are also sound business reasons for ensuring that operators are properly trained. Lost time due to injury has financial implications for damaged goods, buildings and trucks. Skilled operators have fewer accidents.
The forklift truck training courses cover operating the trucks, loading and unloading, safe driving and maintaining your forklift truck.
You also have a duty to regularly re-assess and monitor your forklift truck operators, and the HSE and RTITB recommend refresher training every 3 – 5 years.
