Course Description

What’s It About?

From September 2026, schools across England are expected to follow new statutory guidance on allergy safety, linked to the proposed reforms widely known as Benedict’s Law.

With food allergies now affecting around 1 in 13 children, most schools already have several pupils at risk of a serious allergic reaction. When an incident occurs, the first few minutes are critical.

A key question many school leaders are now asking is: If a pupil experienced anaphylaxis today, would every member of staff know exactly what to do?

Our new Benedict’s Law eLearning bundle includes two core courses:

  • Introduction to Allergen Awareness
  • Anaphylaxis and Auto-injectors

Providing clear, practical allergy training is one of the most effective ways to prepare for the new expectations, while strengthening pupil safety and staff confidence.

Who’s It For?

The Benedict’s Law eLearning bundle is ideal for teachers, teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors and support staff.

What Does It Cover?

This Benedict’s Law eLearning bundle brings together essential knowledge on allergen awareness and emergency response, helping learners understand how to prevent allergen-related risks and act quickly if a severe reaction occurs. It combines best-practice food safety guidance with life-saving intervention skills to support safer environments for customers, colleagues, and the public.

The bundle covers:

  • Introduction to food allergens and the risks they pose
  • Allergies, intolerances and coeliac disease
  • The 14 regulated allergens and legal responsibilities
  • Food labelling requirements and ‘free from’ claims
  • Managing allergens from purchase through to service
  • Communicating accurate allergen information to customers
  • Recognising the symptoms of allergic reactions
  • Understanding anaphylaxis and its causes
  • Identifying common triggers such as foods, medicines and insect stings
  • Responding to allergic reactions, including emergency procedures
  • The use of adrenaline auto-injectors
  • Roles and responsibilities in preventing and managing allergen incidents

How Long Does It Take?

The Benedict’s Law eLearning bundle will typically take 2 to 3 hours to complete. Delivered entirely online, the training offers maximum flexibility. Learners can progress through one course at a time or dip in and out of individual modules as their schedule allows. Your progress is saved each time you log out, making it easy to fit the training around work shifts or other daily commitments. This self-paced format ensures learners can absorb and retain the content at a pace that suits them, helping to build lasting knowledge and confidence in key areas of allergy prevention and control.

Who Is It Accredited By?

The Benedict’s Law eLearning bundle is accredited by Highfield Qualifications, one of the leading providers of regulated food safety qualifications.

How Does It Work?

Our eLearning programmes are available on multiple platforms, including tablets, PCs, Macs, and laptops. All you need is an Internet connection. Candidates log on to the Learner Management System and work their way through the course. Included in the course are scenarios that provide them with real-life context.

Our courses simplify even the most complex subjects through media and content-rich exercises that motivate and engage candidates. The key elements of our eLearning courses are:

  • interactive exercises and gaming
  • media-rich content
  • interactive 3D scenarios
  • content provided by market-leading experts
  • relevant photography and illustrations
  • multi-generational content and style

How’s It Assessed?

The Benedict’s Law eLearning bundle consists of two individual courses. Each course is assessed by multiple-choice questions at the end of the course. Candidates must score 100% to pass.

If the candidate does not achieve 100% on the first attempt, they will be taken back to review the module they struggled with. They can then retry the multiple-choice questions as many times as necessary to pass the course.

They will receive an electronic copy of each certificate immediately upon completion of each course. The certificates may be printed and used as evidence that you have been trained in health and safety to the appropriate level.

Please Note

This eLearning bundle does not provide a qualification. However, it does meet the UK’s new mandatory training requirements.

If you wish to achieve the recognised qualification in subjects such as the Highfield Level 2 Award in Food Allergen Awareness and Control or the Highfield Level 3 Allergen Management courses can be arranged either at your premises or virtually via Zoom.
