About Sue Ellis

I’m Sue, Managing Director and co-owner of Envesca.

Simon and I started Envesca in 1996 from a small home office in Gloucester. We certainly didn’t have a grand plan to build an award-winning training and consultancy business back then. We simply wanted to provide really good training, look after our customers properly and build a business we could be proud of.

Thirty years later, that is still very much what we are trying to do.

What I do at Envesca

These days, you’re less likely to find me standing at the front of a training room and more likely to find me thinking about where Envesca goes next.

A big part of my role is looking at how we can make things better for our customers, whether that means introducing a new course, improving how we communicate, making it easier to book training, or finding another way to take some of the worry out of food safety and health and safety.

I also work closely with our team to make sure we never lose the friendly, helpful approach Envesca was built on.

Compliance can be complicated enough. I don’t think dealing with a company that helps you with it should be.

How Envesca began

Before Envesca, I worked in the hotel industry, including five years as Sales and Marketing Manager for Hatton Hotels.

That experience taught me a lot about what it is actually like to run a busy business. Training and compliance matter, but they are only one item on a very long to-do list.

When Simon and I started Envesca, we wanted to make good-quality food hygiene training easier for businesses to access.

From those early days, Envesca has grown to support organisations across the UK with food safety, health and safety, HACCP, first aid, fire safety and much more.

We’ve worked with thousands of people along the way, but I still believe the little things matter: answering the phone, doing what you said you would do and being there when somebody needs help.

What I’m most proud of

Awards are lovely, and we’ve been fortunate enough to win quite a few over the years, but what makes me proudest is when customers come back to us again and again.

We now have more than 370 five-star Google reviews, and our learners have won four Highfield Top Student Awards.

For me, those things say far more about Envesca than anything I could write here.

They reflect the work our whole team puts into making sure people receive good advice, great training and a genuinely helpful service.

I’m also very proud that, after 30 years, Envesca is still a family business with the same basic principle we started with:

Look after people properly and do what you promise.

A little bit about me

When I’m not working, there’s a very good chance I’m planning a holiday.

I absolutely love travelling and have visited more than 50 countries, which is why my friends have nicknamed me Dora the Explorer.

I love discovering new places, good food and squeezing as much as possible into a trip – although Simon might occasionally have a different view on my holiday itineraries!

I’m also very happy at home in the garden, watching Strictly Come Dancing or The Chase, or enjoying crispy duck pancakes and a rhubarb gin and tonic.
