COSHH Training Course

What’s It About?

This COSHH training course will give you knowledge of the health risks surrounding work with hazardous substances.  It also includes how to undertake a COSHH assessment and how to work safely with hazardous substances.

The term COSHH is an abbreviation of “the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health”.  It is concerned with preventing damage to a person’s health through exposure to harmful substances. This exposure can be through various means including inhalation, ingestion and absorption through the skin.

Who Should Attend?

This half-day Level 2 Award in the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health course is for anyone who works with or is exposed to hazardous substances. Hazardous substances include chemicals (that people make or work with directly), dust, fumes and bacteria.

This course is now being delivered by interactive online training via Zoom.

COSHH Training

Why’s It Important?

Under the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002, regulation 12 states that; ‘every employer who undertakes work, which is liable to expose an employee to a substance hazardous to health, shall provide that employee with suitable and sufficient information, instruction and training.’

Every year, thousands of workers become ill by hazardous substances, contracting lung diseases such as asthma, cancer and dermatitis. These diseases cost many millions of pounds each year to businesses, society and individuals.

The employer is responsible for taking effective measures to control exposure and protect health. If you fail to control hazardous substances adequately, and people become ill, it may result in lost productivity.  It could also result in possible enforcement action,  prosecution and compensation claims from your employees.

What Will You Gain?

By attending this COSHH training course, you will know how to identify hazardous substances in your workplace.  You will also understand the effects that hazardous substances can cause.

Furthermore, you will also understand COSHH regulations, including the responsibilities of employers and employees.

In conclusion, on returning to the workplace, you will know what to consider when conducting a COSHH risk assessment.  You will understand the importance of health surveillance for those who work with hazardous substances.
