Newent Community School - Case Study

As expected, there is a strong focus at Newent School on establishing the right climate for learning and this applies to the school staff as much as it does the students, clearly demonstrated by the importance the school places on commitment to health and safety training.

The entrance to Newent Community School features a green sign with its name above the door. The brick building boasts large windows, and a few cars are parked out front. Landscaped bushes add charm on either side of the welcoming entrance.

Ann Price, School Business Manager, shares “We recognise that we don’t have the skills in-house to provide relevant health and safety training to all our staff and that we need support in this area.

We also recognise, however, that it’s important that whoever supports us in this area is a well-established local company with a great track record of providing accredited training and one who can work closely with us as a school community to ensure we constantly provide a safe and healthy environment for staff, students and visitors.  And we have found all that and more in Envesca.”

The staff regularly undergo training to ensure that the school meets all their statutory obligations.  This includes food safety and allergen awareness training and general health and safety training for the site team, including risk assessment, manual handling and asbestos awareness.

In addition, as Safeguard Members, Newent Community School also benefits from access to professional and up-to-date health and safety advice.

Safeguard Membership has proved an invaluable support for the school’s senior leaders.
