Highfield Level 3 Food Safety for Manufacturing
What’s It About?
This Level 3 Food Safety for Manufacturing course gives you a deeper understanding of how to manage and maintain good food safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
You’ll look at food safety legislation, food safety management procedures, hygiene, contamination, temperature control and staff responsibilities, as well as how to monitor standards and make sure good practice is followed day to day.
The course will help you feel more confident identifying food safety hazards, monitoring the controls in place, supporting your team and taking action when standards are not being met.
What Will You Gain?
By the end of the Level 3 Food Safety for Manufacturing course, you’ll have a stronger understanding of how to manage food safety, monitor standards and support your team in a manufacturing environment.
You’ll learn how to apply food safety procedures, identify and control hazards, monitor hygiene and temperature controls, and make sure staff understand the standards expected of them. The course also looks at induction, ongoing training, record keeping, verification and the corrective action to take when controls or standards are not being met.
Most importantly, you’ll return to work with greater confidence to manage food safety, support your team and take action when something isn’t working as it should.
Who Should Attend?
The Level 3 Food Safety for Manufacturing course is ideal for supervisors, team leaders and managers who have responsibility for food safety standards and the people working within a food manufacturing environment. It is particularly useful if you are involved in monitoring food safety procedures, supervising staff or supporting your HACCP-based food safety system.
The course will help you understand how to manage food safety procedures, monitor controls, maintain good hygiene standards and make sure staff receive the instruction and training they need to work safely.
If you are responsible for training or developing members of your team, the course gives you the food safety knowledge needed to support that role. If you want to deliver formal training, you should also have suitable training skills and experience; our Level 3 Award in Delivering Training is a useful option for developing those skills.
If your role is mainly about handling or processing food rather than supervising others, our Level 2 Food Safety for Manufacturing course may be more appropriate.
Food safety training should also reflect the environment you work in. If you supervise food safety in a catering business, choose the Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Catering. If you work in food retail, the Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Retail would be the better fit.
Why’s It Important?
Supervisors and managers in food manufacturing have an important role in making sure food safety procedures are understood, followed and monitored properly. That means knowing what the standards are, checking that controls are working and taking action when something isn’t right.
The Level 3 Food Safety for Manufacturing course gives you a deeper understanding of food safety legislation, HACCP-based procedures, monitoring, corrective action, verification and record keeping, so you can help make sure your food safety system works in practice rather than simply existing on paper.
It also helps you understand how to supervise good hygiene practices, support staff training, monitor food safety controls and respond when standards are not being met.
For food manufacturers working towards or maintaining BRCGS certification, having knowledgeable supervisors and managers who understand food safety controls, monitoring and corrective action can also support the wider systems and standards you have in place. The course itself is not a BRCGS qualification, but the practical knowledge it develops is highly relevant to a well-managed food manufacturing operation.
Good food safety management is not just about meeting a requirement. It gives you greater confidence that your team knows what is expected, your controls are working and the food you produce is being managed safely.

How Long Is The Qualification Valid?
The Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing does not have a set expiry date.
However, food safety legislation, workplace procedures and good practice can change over time, so it’s important to keep your knowledge up to date.
At Envesca, we recommend refresher training every three years. It’s a good opportunity to revisit the key points, pick up any changes and make sure you still feel confident managing food safety and supporting your team.
If your role, workplace or procedures change significantly before then, it may be worth refreshing your training sooner.
How You'll Be Assessed And Certified
At the end of the Level 3 Food Safety for Manufacturing course, you’ll complete a 45-question multiple-choice examination. You’ll have up to 90 minutes to complete it and will need to answer at least 30 out of 45 questions correctly to pass. If you achieve 36 out of 45 or more, you’ll receive a distinction.
Your completed examination will be sent to Highfield for marking. Once we receive your result and certificate from Highfield, we’ll send them to the person who originally booked the training.
When you successfully complete the assessment, you’ll receive the Highfield Level 3 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing (RQF), giving you recognised evidence of your knowledge and understanding of supervising and managing food safety in a manufacturing environment.
