Why’s It Important?
Good food safety in retail depends on everyone understanding the part they play in keeping food safe, even if they work in a low-risk role.
Food businesses have a responsibility to make sure employees receive food hygiene instruction, supervision and training that is appropriate to the work they do. For someone working in a retail environment, that means understanding the basic hygiene practices they need to follow, how food can become contaminated and what to do if they spot a problem.
The Level 1 Food Safety for Retail course gives employees a practical introduction to those everyday responsibilities, including personal hygiene, cleaning, preventing contamination and reporting food safety hazards.
Good training is not simply about meeting a legal requirement. It helps people understand why food safety matters, what they need to look out for and the simple actions they can take to help keep food safe for customers.
